One of the best parts is you don’t have to leave home to enjoy them. This easy baked version delivers the crispy texture you love with tender chicken and a sticky honey BBQ sauce that’s every bit as satisfying. They’re simple enough for a weeknight meal but delicious enough to serve for parties, football season, or your next family gathering.

Another, best part, just like the original Buffalo Wild Wings honey bbq boneless wings, they are made with all white chicken meat. I don’t love eating meat off of a bone, like a lot of people-like the rest of my family and friends. Maybe I just don’t want to think about where it is actually coming from or I really don’t want to get that messy eating dinner. Anyway, these are a must try, they are delicious!

Why You Will Love This Recipe:

  • Leftovers re-heat well for lunch the next day. Obviously, they will be better heated up in the oven but, sometimes there is only time for a microwave.
  • Tastes just like Buffalo Wild Wings for a fraction of the cost. Fraction of the cost means you can make it more often or make more and invite people over!
  • Crispy baked chicken instead of deep frying. Less fat and healthier due to not deep frying.
  • Sweet, smoky honey BBQ sauce with just the right balance of flavors.
  • Kid-approved and family-friendly.
  • Great for game day, parties, movie night or an anytime easy dinner. We could eat this once a week.
  • Easy ingredients you may already have in your pantry. I love pantry recipes!

My family COULD NOT love these Boneless Honey BBQ Wings anymore than they already do! These are an absolute favorite in our house. We like going to Buffalo Wild Wings but their wings can be pretty expensive for small portions. So, I made these honey bbq wings and they were a major crowd pleaser. It made a lot of wings, so we had leftovers (which is another bonus) and it was cheaper than going out.

My husband even said he liked these better than Buffalo Wild Wings! I was (and still am) completely flattered and I completely agree with him! I am already ready to make these again. You are going to love them!

Ingredients Needed for Boneless Honey BBQ Wings:

2 1/2 lbs. chicken breast, cut into chunks

2 1/2 c. panko bread crumbs

1 1/2 c. flour

2 tsp. salt

1 1/2 tsp. pepper

1 1/2 tsp paprika

3/4 tsp. cayenne pepper

1 1/2 tsp. garlic powder

3 eggs

Sauce:

2 c. barbecue sauce (I used Sweet Baby Ray’s)

2/3 c. honey

4 Tbsp. butter, melted

These ingredients are most likely in your pantry right now. Sweet Baby Ray’s is our favorite store purchased bbq sauce. The added honey and melted butter give this sauce a rich and sweet flavor. The panko crumbs gives the chicken coating an extra crunch.

Equipment You Will Need:

  • Mixing Bowls to coat the chicken and to cover the coated chicken in the bbq sauce just before serving. These mixing bowls are great for prepping all your favorite dishes! From smoothies to fruit salad, these bowls have you covered-and they have covers. MIXING BOWLS
  • BAKING SHEETS for baking the coated chicken.
  • SAUCE PAN for heating and mixing the bbq sauce.
  • MEAT THERMOMETER-for making sure your chicken reaches 165 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • COOLING RACKS-These heavy-duty cooling racks for baking and grilling needs, too! Super convenient and easy to clean.

Instructions for Boneless Honey BBQ Wings:

In a bowl, combine bread crumbs, flour, salt, pepper, paprika, cayenne pepper, and garlic powder. In a separate bowl, whisk the eggs together until well mixed.

Dip the chicken into the the bread crumb mixture, in the egg mixture, and then back into the bread crumb mixture. Place on a greased sheet pan. Repeat with the rest of the chicken.

Bake at 400 degrees for 18-20 minutes.

While the chicken is baking, make the sauce. Combine the barbecue sauce, honey, and butter in a sauce pan on medium low heat. Warm the sauce to a simmer and remove from heat.

Put half of the chicken into a large bowl. Dump half of the sauce mixture over the chicken and toss to coat, being careful not to take the breading off the chicken. Repeat with the rest of the chicken and sauce.

Serve and enjoy!

Tips for Crispy Boneless Honey BBQ Wings:

Getting that deliciously crispy coating is easier than you might think! These simple tips will help you achieve restaurant-quality boneless wings every time.

  • Pat the chicken dry with paper towels before breading. Removing excess moisture helps the coating stick better and creates a crispier finish.
  • Cut the chicken into evenly sized pieces so they cook at the same rate.
  • Press the breading firmly onto each piece of chicken to help it stay in place while baking or frying.
  • Leave a little space between the chicken pieces on the baking sheet. Crowding the pan traps steam and prevents the coating from crisping up.
  • Place the chicken on a wire rack set over a baking sheet. This allows hot air to circulate around each piece, making the coating crispy on all sides.
  • Flip the chicken halfway through baking so both sides brown evenly.
  • Wait until the chicken is fully cooked before tossing it with the honey BBQ sauce. Adding the sauce too early can soften the crispy coating.
  • For the crispiest results, serve the wings immediately after coating them in the sauce.

Air Fryer Instructions:

The air fryer is a great option if you love crispy chicken with less oil-baking uses no oil as well. I honestly have not tried the air fryer-mine is too small. It would take a lot more time-but it is an option.

Preheat your air fryer to 380°F. Arrange the breaded chicken pieces in a single layer, leaving a little space between each piece. Depending on the size of your air fryer, you may need to cook in batches.

Air fry for 10–12 minutes, flipping the chicken halfway through cooking. Continue cooking until the coating is golden brown and the chicken reaches an internal temperature of 165°F.

Transfer the cooked chicken to a large bowl, pour the warm honey BBQ sauce over the top, and gently toss until every piece is evenly coated. Serve immediately.

Can You Deep Fry Them?:

Absolutely! Deep frying creates an extra crispy coating that tastes very similar to restaurant-style boneless wings.

Heat vegetable or canola oil to 350°F in a deep fryer or heavy-bottomed pot. Carefully add the breaded chicken pieces in small batches, being careful not to overcrowd the fryer.

Cook for about 4–6 minutes, or until the chicken is golden brown and cooked through. Transfer the chicken to a paper towel-lined plate or wire rack to drain any excess oil.

While the chicken is still hot, toss it with the honey BBQ sauce and serve right away. Remember, the bbq sauce will soak into the breading so, serve immediately after coating with the BBQ sauce.

What Makes Honey BBQ Wings So Good?:

Honey BBQ wings are a favorite because they perfectly balance sweet, smoky, and savory flavors. The honey adds a rich sweetness that complements the smoky barbecue sauce without overpowering it. Combined with crispy breaded chicken, every bite has the perfect mix of crunchy texture and sticky, flavorful sauce.

They’re also incredibly versatile. Baked boneless wings are mild enough for kids to enjoy while still delivering the bold barbecue flavor adults love. Whether you’re serving them for game day, movie night, family dinner, potlucks, or a backyard barbecue, they’re always one of the first dishes to disappear.

Recipe Variations:

One of the best things about homemade boneless wings is how easy they are to customize.

  • Add a pinch of cayenne pepper or a few dashes of hot sauce to the honey BBQ sauce for a spicy kick.
  • Use boneless, skinless chicken thighs instead of chicken breasts for extra juicy wings.
  • Switch up your bbq sauce-make them extra smoky by using a hickory or mesquite barbecue sauce.
  • Sprinkle the finished wings with chopped parsley or green onions for a pop of color.
  • Add a sprinkle of sesame seeds for a fun twist.
  • Turn them into Honey BBQ Chicken Wraps with lettuce, tomatoes, cheese, and ranch dressing.
  • Serve them over a salad for a lighter meal.

What to Serve with Honey BBQ Wings:

These boneless honey BBQ wings pair well with a variety of side dishes, making them perfect for everything from casual weeknight dinners to game day parties. So versatile and so delicious!

Some of our favorite sides include:

Storage & Freezing:

Store leftover honey BBQ wings in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.

To freeze, allow the cooked chicken to cool completely. Place the wings in a freezer-safe container or freezer bag and freeze for up to 3 months. Bake them to re-heat.

For the best texture, thaw overnight in the refrigerator before re-heating.

Try freezing the cooked breaded chicken before coating with bbq sauce. When ready to use, thaw, bake and coat with bbq sauce-serve immediately.

Reheating Instructions:

For the crispiest leftovers, reheat the wings in the oven at 350°F for about 10–15 minutes or in the air fryer at 350°F for 4–6 minutes.

While the microwave works in a pinch, it softens the breading, so the oven or air fryer will give you the best results.

FAQs:

Can I make these ahead of time?
Yes! Bread the chicken ahead of time and refrigerate it for several hours before cooking. You can also prepare the sauce in advance.

Can I double the recipe?
Definitely! This recipe is perfect for parties, game days, and family gatherings.

Can I use frozen chicken?
Yes, but thaw it completely and pat it dry before breading.

Can I use chicken thighs instead of chicken breasts?
Absolutely! Chicken thighs stay extra juicy and work wonderfully in this recipe.

Are Honey BBQ wings spicy?
No. Traditional honey BBQ sauce is sweet and smoky with very little heat, making these wings a family-friendly favorite.

Can I make these gluten-free?
Yes. Simply substitute your favorite gluten-free flour and breadcrumbs.

Cook’s Notes:

  • Cut the chicken into similar-sized pieces for even cooking.
  • A wire rack helps the chicken crisp on all sides while baking.
  • Always use a meat thermometer to ensure the chicken reaches 165°F.
  • Warm the honey BBQ sauce before tossing it with the chicken so it coats more evenly.
  • Toss the chicken in the sauce just before serving to help maintain the crispy coating.
  • Leftovers make a delicious lunch and are perfect for wraps, salads, or sliders.

We have used different bars, but we love to wrap the peanut butter cookie dough around a bite-sized Snicker bar. Chocolate and peanut butter go together perfectly. A way to make these even more simply…use Betty Crocker peanut butter cookie mix.

Stained Glass Sugar Cookies are so pretty. We used flower cookie cutters and then cut out the center and placed broken up Jolly Ranchers in the center to give it the stained glass look. They were super fun to make and eat. Use parchment paper on your cookie sheet to make removing the cookies easier.
