Ingredients Needed for Homemade Spaghetti Sauce:

Tomatoes

Onion

Garlic

Basil

Parsley

Olive oil

Salt

Pepper

Italian seasoning

Mushrooms

Instructions for Homemade Spaghetti Sauce:

Grease a 9 x 13 baking dish.

Core the tomatoes and chopped them into medium sized chunks. Place them in the baking dish.

Peel and chop onion into medium sized chunks. Place in the baking dish.

Peel the garlic cloves, cut them in half and sprinkle over tomatoes and onion.

Place basil and parsley leaves on top of the ingredients in the baking dish.

Drizzle olive oil over the top and stir to mix up ingredients.

Bake at 375 degrees for 60 minutes.

After about 50 minutes of cooking the tomato mixture, crumble cook Jimmy Dean sausage.

As the sausage cooks, chop the mushrooms and add to the sausage when it is nearly cooked through.

Continue cooking until mushrooms and sausage have cooked. Set aside.

After the one hour of cooking, remove the tomato mixture from the oven and allow time to cool enough to be able to put the mixture into the blender.

Using a slotted spoon, remove tomatoes, onion, garlic, basil and parsley from the juices and place in a blender.

Add the salt, pepper and Italian seasoning to the tomato mixture in the blender.

Blend the tomato mixture to desired consistency. Use some of the juices in the 9 x 13 baking dish to get your desired consistency-as needed.

Then, add the sauce to the sausage and mushroom mixture.

Use or freeze this spaghetti sauce in freezer containers or Ziploc freezer bags.

This recipe makes about 5 1/2 cups.

NOTE: If you freeze this sauce, when you thaw it, it may be a bit runny due to the ice. Place sauce into a sauce pan and simmer it to thicken.

Ingredients

  • 3 pounds tomatoes
  • 1 cup white onion
  • 2 large garlic cloves
  • 1 ½ tbsps fresh basil leaves
  • ½ tbsp fresh parsley leaves
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp pepper
  • 2 tsp Italian seasoning
  • 2 tbsps olive oil
  • 1/2 cup mushrooms more, if desired
  • 1 pound Jimmy Dean Sausage

Instructions

  1. Spray a 9 x 13 baking dish and set aside.

  2. Core and chop tomatoes into medium sized chunks. Place in the baking dish.

  3. Peel and chop the onion into chunks. Place in the baking dish.

  4. Peel the garlc, cut the cloves in half and sprinkle over the tomatoes and onion.

  5. Place basil and parsley leaves on the tomato mixture.

  6. Drizzle olive oil over mixture and stir to mix ingredients.

  7. Bake at 375° for one hour.

  8. After about 45-50 minutes of baking, begin crumble cooking the sausage.

  9. While the sausage cooks, chop the mushrooms and add to the nearly cooked sausage. Finsh cooking the sausage and mushrooms. Set aside.

  10. After one hour, remove tomato and onion mixture from the oven and allow to cool-long enough so you can blend these ingredients in a blender.

  11. Use a slotted spoon to remove ingredients from the juices (reserve the juices in case the sauce is too thick for your liking). Place ingredients in a blender.

  12. Add salt, pepper and Italian seasoning to the mixture in the blender.

  13. Blend the sauce to desired consistency. Use juices if the sauce is too thick for your liking.

  14. Add sauce to the meat mixture and heat through. Serve.

  15. Or after you mix the sausage and sauce together, allow it to cool and freeze it in Ziploc bags or freezer containers to use later.

  16. NOTE: If you freeze this sauce, when you thaw it, it may be a bit runny due to the ice. Place sauce into a sauce pan and simmer it to thicken.
