Fudge Drops

Fudge Drops have a creamy chocolatey center with a vanilla wafer crumb coating. They are super easy to make and they only require four ingredients. This is one of our favorite Christmas treats. We make these every Christmas for parties and get-togethers.

Double Boiler:

I have always used a sauce pan on the stove to melt chocolate for recipes-or a glass bowl in the microwave. In 2020 I bought and began using a double boiler. It has been well worth the money.

I have ruined plenty of chocolate in the microwave and on the stove-more often in the microwave, however. I would sometimes cook it too long or it would get too hot and get hard and unusable. It’s very sad and unfortunate to have to throw out unusable chocolate because we didn’t watch it close enough. We have thrown out a lot of chocolate over the years-having to try again.

My double boiler has made it so easy and I don’t have to worry about over heating it or burning it as much as I have done in the past. I still watch the melting chocolate closely and stir it frequently but WOW it melted so nicely. I have not thrown any chocolate away since starting to use a double boiler.

Ingredients Needed for Fudge Drops:

10 ounces chocolate (I used Hershey’s chocolate candy bars)

4 ounces vanilla wafers, crushed in a blender

1/2 cup almonds, chopped into medium pieces

8 ounces Cool Whip

Instructions for Fudge Drops:

First, in a blender, crush the vanilla wafers into fine crumbs and place in a bowl big enough to coat the drops of chocolate in. (I love the Ninja Professional Blender- as I have mentioned in other posts, the small single serve cup that comes with this blender works SO well for making crackers or cookies into crumbs for crusts-Love it!)

Next, break the Hersey’s chocolate bars into smaller pieces. Place them in a microwave safe dish, preferably glass. (Or if you have a double boiler, use it. I have recently purchased a double boiler and love it!)

Melt the Hersey’s chocolate bars slowly in the microwave or on the stove top (or in a double boiler). Stir frequently.

When the chocolate has melted and is smooth and creamy, remove pan from the heat and mix in the Cool Whip. Mix these two ingredients until the Cool Whip and the melted chocolate are well blended.

Then, add the almonds and stir the mixture well.

Place chocolate mixture in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes or more. Chilling the mixture will make forming this chocolate, Cool Whip, and almond mixture into balls much easier.

After chocolate mixture is set and well chilled, drop a spoonful of the chocolate mixture into the vanilla wafers and coat, forming a ball. Continue dropping the chocolate mixture in the vanilla wafer crumbs until all of the mixture has been formed into balls and coated in vanilla wafer crumbs.

Place back in the refrigerate to chill.

Serve cold and store the left overs in the refrigerator.

Enjoy!
