Ingredients

  • 12 slices white bread day old works well
  • 1 large red apple peeled, cored and chopped

Brown Sugar Glaze:

  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 cup brown sugar

Egg Mixture:

  • 4 eggs
  • 1/2 cup half and half
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla

Dry Mixture:

  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/8 tsp nutmeg
  • 2 tsp cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Pre-heat oven to 350°

  2. Lay 12 slices of bread out on the counter.

  3. Peel, core and chop apple. Set aside.

Brown Sugar Glaze:

  1. Melt the butter in a microwave safe bowl and then mix in the brown sugar.

  2. Spread this mixture into the bottom of a 9 x 13 baking dish and set aside.

Egg Mixture:

  1. Mix eggs, half and half, milk and vanilla in a mixing bowl with a whisk-mix well and set aside.

Dry Mixture:

  1. Mix brown sugar, nutmeg and cinnamon in a small bowl and set aside.

Assemble French Toast:

  1. Lay six slices of bread into the bottom of the 9 x 13 baking dish-on top of the brown sugar glaze mixture.

  2. Drizzle half of the egg mixture on top of the six slices of bread. Make sure to coat as much of the bread as you can.

  3. Sprinkle half of the apples and half of the dry mixture on top of the egg mixture.

  4. Repeat with the other six pieces of bread, egg mixture, apples, and dry mixture.

  5. Bake at 350° for one hour. Cover with foil after 45 minutes or more, if French toast is getting too brown. Ovens vary so watch your French toast so it doesn't burn.
