A cereal and marshmallow treat with the flavors of apple and caramel.
Grease a 9x 13 baking dish or cover the bottom and sides in parchment paper. Set aside.
Fill a large mixing bowl with the 12 cups of Apple Jacks cereal and set aside.
Unwrap and melt Werther's caramels with the milk in a double boiler. OR use microwave at 10 second intervals until nearly melted. Continue stirring to finish melting. (if using the microwave, don't start melting the caramel until marshmallow mixture is nearly ready)
While the caramel is melting, place butter in a large pot and begin to melt the butter.
Add the miniature marshmallows and stir to coat with butter and melt. Stir continually so it will not burn. (Also, make sure you stir the caramel in the double boiler while you are making the marshmallow and butter mixture)
When marshmallows have melted, add the vanilla and the salt. Stir to combine.
Quickly pour marshmallow mixture over the cereal in the mixing bowl. Stir to coat all of the cereal.
With buttered fingers, very lightly press half of the cereal mixture into the bottom of the 9 x 13 baking dish.
Drizzle all of the melted caramel over the first layer of the cereal and marshmallow mixture.
Lightly press the remaining cereal and marshmallow mixture on top of the caramel and allow to completely cool.
Cut into squares and store what you don't eat in an airtight container.
